Wait. If you eat ramen like that in Japan… people know you’re a tourist. First, don’t wait too long. I know you want to take photos before eating, but ramen gets soggy fast — so eat it while it’s hot. Second, don’t be shy to slurp. In Japan, slurping is totally normal when eating noodles. But be careful — for other dishes, making noise is considered rude. The rules are simple. But if you don’t know them, that’s okay. Just respect the chef — and enjoy the ramen. If you want to try authentic wagyu ramen, you should check out Wagyu Ramen Goku in Shibuya. Unlike most places, even the soup is made from beef bones — a rich, 100% wagyu-based ramen. It’s located in Shibuya, easy to visit, and very foreigner-friendly. If it’s your first ramen in Japan, this is the place to go. ⁡ #pr @和牛らーめん極

Wait! Don't do this when eating Yakiniku in Japan First, never use your eating chopsticks to handle raw meat Eating undercooked meat can cause food poisoning, so use the serving tongs or separate chopsticks instead. Second, don't put all the meat on the grill at once Japanese yakiniku is sliced very thin. Cook a few pieces at a time and avoid overcrowding the grill. And here's a local tip For "Rosu" (loin), about 10 seconds per side is enough If you overcook it, you're wasting good wagyu! Want more unique Japan travel tips? Black market in Japan?! This building used to be a black market after World War II When Tokyo was redeveloped, the shop owners here refused to leave. So instead of tearing it down, the government built a giant building around them. Today, you'll find cheap bars, ticket shops, massage parlors, and all kinds of strange stores It's chaotic, a little weird, and loved by Japanese salarymen. This is New Shinbashi Building. One of the few places in Tokyo where you can still feel postwar Japan. Want more unique Japan travel tips? Tokyo vs Osaka How to eat Sukiyaki ⁡ In Tokyo, sukiyaki is cooked in a simmered style. Soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar are mixed into the pot first, then the meat and vegetables are simmered together The vegetables soak up all the beef flavor, so you can enjoy everything together ⁡ But in Osaka, it’s more of a grilled style. They first cook only the beef, then season it directly with sugar and soy sauce. You can enjoy the rich flavor and aroma of the beef itself Which style do you want to try? Let me know in the comments ⁡ If you want more real local tips in Japan, we’ve created a FREE guidebook with our favorite spots, food, local hacks, and useful coupons. Eat raw egg with rice!?!? Only in Japan. When I’m too lazy to cook, I usually eat natto with rice. But there’s another lazy Japanese meal: TKG (Tamago Kake Gohan) (Rice with Raw Egg) It literally means “egg over rice.” Making it is super simple: Just crack a raw egg over hot rice, add soy sauce, and mix it together. Japanese eggs are safe to eat raw, so don’t worry. You can also add wasabi, sesame oil, or bonito flakes for extra flavor. ⁡ If you want more real local tips in Japan, we’ve created a FREE guidebook with our favorite spots, food, local hacks, and useful coupons. How to enjoy Wagyu at home In Japan, there are many ways to enjoy wagyu. Today, I’ll show you one of them: Shabu-shabu Making it is super simple. Boil water, then swish the beef in the hot pot until it turns slightly white One important tip: don’t cook too much meat at once. If you overcook wagyu, it gets tough! After that, dip the meat into your sauce Ponzu and sesame sauce are the classic choices in Japan You can even mix them together Some people also add chili oil or garlic, and grated daikon or tororo tastes amazing too What’s your favorite Japanese food? Tell me in the comments

If you wanna try real local food streets, skip Asakusa, Ueno, and Tsukiji They’re too crowded and over-touristed now. I recommend these spots instead! ⁡ Jindaiji One of Tokyo’s oldest temples, founded in 733. Around the temple, you’ll find many traditional soba restaurants Try local street foods like: Soba bread Soba manju The soba bread was SO good… I seriously want to go back just to eat it again And the best part? It’s only about 20 minutes from Shinjuku, but feels far away from busy Tokyo. Another local favorite? Sugamo Jizo-dori Shopping Street Known as the “Harajuku for old ladies,” this street is full of amazing Japanese snacks. Taiyaki, daifuku, dorayaki… If you want to try classic Japanese sweets, this is the place ⁡ If you want more real local tips in Japan, we’ve created a FREE guidebook with our favorite spots, food, local hacks, and useful coupons. I’m Japanese I don’t buy snacks at convenience stores or Don Quijote. I buy them at drugstores or Okashi no Machioka instead For example, Matcha KitKats At Lawson or Don Quijote: almost ¥500 But at Matsumoto Kiyoshi or Okashi no Machioka: under ¥300 Almost half price. I’m Japanese I don’t go up Tokyo Tower or Skytree. The tickets are expensive Instead, I go to the 51st floor lobby of Toranomon Hills Mori Tower — for free And honestly? Tokyo Tower looks better from outside anyway I’m Japanese Even in Japan, when I visit a new area, I ask locals for the best spots So I made a FREE Tokyo guidebook with local places and tips I personally discovered while exploring Tokyo DM or comment “TOKYO” to get it! This is the one convenience store hack you MUST know in Japan. No.1 Look for “free exchange” campaigns. You’ll walk a LOT in Japan, so you’ll probably buy drinks all the time. At convenience stores, they often have “buy one, get one” deals. Keep your receipt, and you can get a free item next time No.2 Download the app and use coupons. Apps like FamiPay often have deals like ¥400 off ($2–3). You can download it by setting your phone region to Japan. No.3 At a convenience store(Lawson) printer in Japan, you can print the news headline from your birthday 📰 Switch to English, tap “Other Contents,” then “Birthday News Print Service” Enter your birthday, pay 500 yen, and get a real newspaper headline from the day you were born If you want more real local tips in Japan, we’ve created a FREE guidebook with our favorite spots, food, local hacks, and useful coupons. Don’t miss these steps when you go to an izakaya in Japan… or you’ll miss the real izakaya experience Step 1 Order drinks first At most izakayas in Japan, drinks come before food. Step 2 Enjoy the “Otoshi” A small appetizer served automatically. It’s a unique Japanese izakaya culture — part table charge, part welcome snack. Step 3 Cheers! When the drinks arrive, everyone says “Kanpai!” and enjoys the otoshi together. Step 4 Don’t order too much at once I know you’ll be hungry, but Izakayas are all about sharing small dishes little by little. Final Step️ Finish with ramen At the end of the night, Japanese people often finish with ramen. Japanese dining rules can look difficult. But if you don’t know them, that’s okay Just respect the chef — and enjoy the food. I’m Japanese. We don’t eat sushi or ramen before an important day. We eat katsudon. Katsudon is considered a lucky food in Japan. Because “katsu” sounds like the Japanese word 勝つ, which means “to win” So in Japan, people believe eating katsudon before a big day will bring you victory You can also enjoy it in different ways — with cheese, Japanese pepper, or even mayonnaise ⁡ If you want more real local tips in Japan, we’ve created a FREE guidebook with our favorite spots, food, local hacks, and useful coupons. Do you believe you can eat 15 pieces of sushi for just $1?! This tiny sushi spot is hidden in a back alley in Shinjuku, away from all the busy crowds. They serve daily special sushi for just ¥10 per piece, and you can order up to 15 pieces per person. That means 15 pieces only cost… ¥150($1) And honestly? Not just the cheap sushi — all the other sushi and dishes were AMAZING too. I couldn’t stop eating that night. If you want to know this spot, send us a DM saying “SUSHI”

Don’t just eat street food when you come to Tsukiji! It’s tasty, but sometimes the prices are very touristy There’s a better and cheaper way to enjoy fresh seafood in Tsukiji. Head to Tsukiji Uogashi and check out the Odawarabashi Building and the Keiko Bashi Building Inside, you’ll find huge selections of fresh seafood and meat at prices locals actually pay. You can eat your haul at the 3rd floor food court inside the Odawarabashi Building Or take everything back to your hotel and make your own seafood bowl with ingredients from the supermarket. Honestly… it tastes even better when you make it yourself This whole box of sea urchin cost me only ¥3,000 — about $20. At tourist spots outside, the same amount could easily cost over ¥10,000 ($70+) ⁡ If you want more real local tips in Japan, we’ve created a FREE guidebook with our favorite spots, food, local hacks, and useful coupons. “What is that smoke!?” I seriously regret finding this place… In the middle of nowhere, there’s this tiny broken-looking shack with smoke pouring out everywhere. I looked inside… and they were grilling fish over charcoal So I tried it… Crispy on the outside, super juicy on the inside. Honestly, this might be one of the best grilled fish spots in Japan. Now I regret coming here… because even though it’s far from central Tokyo, I already want to go back again. This place is 鯖の助(Saba no suke)

Do you know there’s a snack shop in Japan that locals love even more than convenience stores or Don Quijote? It’s called Okashi no Machioka The snacks are already cheaper than convenience stores, but they also have sales all the time — sometimes even 50% off! A lot of Japanese people stop by after school or work to grab snacks and drinks 🍫🥤 They have over 200 stores across Japan, so if you come to Japan, definitely check it out!
