I’m Japanese. I don’t usually go to the trendy new cafés that are popular on Instagram. I prefer local spots that have been loved for generations. For example, Suzukake. A traditional Japanese sweets shop with over 100 years of history. Their Matcha Anwarabi is great, but my favorite is the seasonal Ajisai. It means hydrangea in Japanese. Beautiful, sweet, and delicious. If you want matcha, skip the trendy cafés and visit Nakamura Tokichi Azabudai. Founded in Kyoto in 1854, it’s one of Japan’s most respected tea brands. And if you want onigiri, skip the convenience store. Go to Sumidaya. A rice specialty shop with over 100 years of history. My favorite is the Gyu Shigure.
