This spectacular event, the first of its kind in the history of Sensoji Temple, which boasts 1,400 years of history, will feature dynamic images projected onto the temple's majestic Hozomon Gate, creating a truly breathtaking sight. The projected images are themed around the votive plaques that were donated during the Edo period and displayed in the temple's main hall and other areas, and feature scenes from history and stories created by famous artists such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Projections are also projected onto the temple's Nitenmon Gate, an Important Cultural Property, and the five-story pagoda, one of its symbols, so you can experience a side of Sensoji Temple like you've never seen it before, making it one of its attractions. Located in northeastern Wakayama Prefecture, surrounded by mountains reaching 1,000 meters above sea level, Mount Koya is a sacred site of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai approximately 1,200 years ago at the beginning of the Heian period. When Kobo Daishi Kukai founded Mount Koya approximately 1,200 years ago, Danjo Garan was the first building to be begun. As you pass through the gate, gazing up at the imposing guardian deities, you will come across numerous structures that allow you to experience the ideas of Kukai and esoteric Buddhism. The greatest towering structure among them is the Great Pagoda of the Foundation. Normally, photography is prohibited, but today I will give you a special look at its interior. In esoteric Buddhism, the visualization of the Buddhist worldview is called a mandala, and because the Great Pagoda of the Foundation itself is constructed as a three-dimensional mandala, we can experience that worldview using all five senses. At the center is Dainichi Nyorai. Four Buddhas and sixteen Bodhisattvas surround it on all four sides. 1200 years of history, Kukai's philosophy, and the prayers of the people.
