This is one of the most spiritual mountains I’ve ever been in Japan. You can immediately feel the power once you step into the mountain. It also feels like stepping into a world of Princess Mononoke. I hike up 1,425 stairs to reach the top of Horaiji Temple. It is a mountain and temple that’s over 1,300 years of history. It is also listed as a National Important Cultural Property. You will walk through lush and mossy forest with trees over 400 years old, and pass by different sacred temples, and statues while hiking up. This place is also full of maple leaves that during autumn many trees will turn into beautiful colors! After reaching the top, our guide prepared bento for us and it was the best bento I’ve ever had! Even though it was raining, the atmosphere felt even better, and I truly fell in love with this spiritual cultural heritage! The tour I joined!
