Chita City Okada, a little town that still remains the charm of the Edo period. This time, I joined a local tour where you get to peek inside a craft beer brewery and enjoy a wholesome lunch afterward! You will be able to see many traditional Japanese buildings with over 400 years of history while walking through the street here. Some Japanese craftsmen also run some cozy little shops here! I visited OKD KOMINKA BREWING. This is a beer brewery that’s built inside a renovated 100-year-old rice cracker factory. The owner hopes with a passion for brewing delicious beer and bringing joy to others. Right after the brewery tour, we headed next door to SON Dinning, a beautiful café that offers beer tastings along with a healthy, seasonal lunch. This is one of the most spiritual mountains I’ve ever been in Japan. You can immediately feel the power once you step into the mountain. It also feels like stepping into a world of Princess Mononoke. I hike up 1,425 stairs to reach the top of Horaiji Temple. It is a mountain and temple that’s over 1,300 years of history. It is also listed as a National Important Cultural Property. You will walk through lush and mossy forest with trees over 400 years old, and pass by different sacred temples, and statues while hiking up. This place is also full of maple leaves that during autumn many trees will turn into beautiful colors! After reaching the top, our guide prepared bento for us and it was the best bento I’ve ever had! Even though it was raining, the atmosphere felt even better, and I truly fell in love with this spiritual cultural heritage! The tour I joined! If you love miso, this is a place you can’t miss in Aichi. You can also experience Aichi’s unique Hatcho miso through a brewery tour and a hands-on cooking session using miso made from different soybeans here. It is a great way to learn how to use miso to make delicious dishes! I visited Maruya Hatcho Miso, a miso brewery with over 650 years of history, whose miso is enjoyed not only in Japan but also in many countries overseas. Beyond their classic Hatcho miso, they also make organic miso, and even miso cola！ I was too curious not to try it, so of course I brought one home. The owner was the highlight of the visit. He is a cheerful, charismatic person who speaks fluent English and even German! He guided me through the brewery and showed me just how versatile miso can be. After touring the brewery with the owner, we moved on to a hands-on cooking experience using their Hatcho miso taught by the owner himself. From savory dishes to creative ideas you wouldn’t expect, it was eye opening to see how one type of miso can be used in so many ways! You get to learn how to cook their miso here into tasty meals. At the end of the experience, the owner served us vanilla ice cream topped with their special miso seasoning.The balance of sweetness and saltiness was perfect, almost like a refined sea salt ice cream. It was so good that I ended up buying one to take home as a souvenir! Didn’t know that there is a little Kyoto vibe historical street in Aichi! I really love the nostalgic atmosphere here Walking through the old town in a kimono felt magical and every corner here was photogenic, calm, and quiet. It reminds me of a quieter version of Kyoto. The street leads all the way to Inuyama Castle, with shrines tucked nearby. I especially loved the obi I chose for this kimono.The soft gradient colors were just beautiful. Wearing a kimono, I also experienced a traditional tea ceremony for the first time in a while. The instructors will teach you step by step, and every movement is just so elegant. This temple space is only accessible to guests joining the tea ceremony, which made the experience feel incredibly peaceful and intimate. The matcha was rich and comforting, and the delicate Japanese sweets were almost too cute to eat! I’m back in Tokoname, Aichi！Do you all remember this place? Any pottery lovers here? This time, I visited Tokoname in a different way. Instead of simply walking through the old streets, I stepped into a Tokonameyaki teapot artisan’s studio called Chaden (茶伝 CHADEN). It was my first time getting closer to Japanese clay culture through an actual tea- brewing experience. On the first floor, you can observe the teapot artisan’s workspace up close, where the craftsman personally explains how everyday teaware is made. Upstairs is a tea room filled with a traditional Japanese atmosphere. I heard the owner spent five years carefully renovating this space. The scent of wood and the way natural light falls inside make you feel calm the moment you step in. Here, you can experience brewing Japanese tea using teaware handcrafted by the artisan himself. The owner patiently guides you step by step on how to hold the teapot, pour the water, and control the temperature. Each movement looks simple, but it carries years of experience behind it. Enjoying tea with wagashi was a healing moment, where pottery is not only seen, but experienced through use. After the tea experience, I took a stroll along the Pottery Footpath together with a local guide. Tokoname is one of Japan’s oldest pottery towns, with a history that goes back over 1000 years. Walking around @alamoanacenter this time, I came across so many stores I used to visit all the time during my study abroad in the US. This place truly has everything, and it’s so easy to spend hours just wandering around. If you’re visiting, it’s a really nice spot to add to your plans. Do you remember what I shared about Southern Kumamoto before? There are actually so many more beautiful places you can explore! The location in this video! Tategamikyo Gorge This park has two beautiful suspension bridges, especially stunning during the autumn foliage season when the entire area is painted in vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. The view is absolutely breathtaking! Old Akasaki Elementary School + Akoushima An abandoned elementary school built on the sea. While it's no longer open for visits inside, you can explore Akoushima Island right next to it. During low tide, you can walk across to visit the shrine on the other side! Okadome Kofuku Station The only active train station in Japan with "happiness" in its name. Here, you'll find adorable Kumamon (the kumamoto prefecture mascot) decorations and charming displays. Even if you’re not catching a train here, it’s a great photo spot! I still get asked a lot whether I think Ghibli Park is worth visiting or not. Honestly, it depends on what you’re looking for. Personally, I was hoping for something more immersive, like a full-scale Aburaya built in the center of the park, where you’d feel like you’ve stepped straight into a Ghibli world. 🥹 But in reality, it felt more like a large photo studio where every spot seemed designed specifically for taking pictures. This could also be because the park is set within another large park, and there’s an ice skating center right next to the Ghibli Grand Warehouse area, which made the atmosphere feel less magical than I had imagined. The overall experience felt more like hopping from one photo spot to the next.
