The original release dates back 25 years to 2001. As expected, they were severely yellowed, and the distinctive reflective accents had turned brown—likely due to aging. First, I brushed them down, cleaned the black leather, and then scrubbed the reflective parts with Stain Remover. Fortunately, it seemed to be just surface dirt, so they came out clean. And they were surprisingly dirty. For the sole, I used the familiar Utility Brush. I thoroughly removed the dirt with the brass bristles. I applied Yellow Remover to the midsole and left it in direct sunlight. For post-cleaning care, I inserted Shoe Guards 2.0 and replaced the insole with an AIR Insole. I applied SOLE PLUS 3.0 to the outsole. Since the toe and heel areas are prone to peeling, I pressed it down especially carefully there. The black leather is very thick and sturdy. I worked in Premium Shoe Cream, which contains Ezo deer fat, and polished it. As a result, the leather regained its suppleness and luster. After brushing, I used the Utility Eraser to remove the most stubborn black stains. It’s incredibly effective, but cleaning the entire shoe this way would take forever. I’ll try a different approach: using the Suede Brush for light stains and reserving the Eraser for the really tough ones. Next, I saturated the brush with plenty of water and cleaned the entire nubuck surface until it was thoroughly wet. I moved the brush in both large and small strokes to lift the dirt from within the fibers. I also cleaned the inside using the brush. Apply HEEL PLUS 3.0 to the heels, adjusting the shape slightly to fit. Increase the contact area and press firmly. Replace the worn-out insoles with The Best Insole, which features arch support. For the nubuck care, spray Shoe Moisture Mist and fluff up the nap. The nap, which had been so stiff and blackened, becomes soft and fluffy again as if by magic. Finally, I spray on a waterproofing spray to form a water- and stain-resistant barrier that prevents new dirt from adhering to the nubuck. The dirt on the nap has disappeared to the point where it feels almost satisfying.
