Don’t make the mistake of traveling to Japan in the wrong month without knowing this first! 🇯🇵✨ ✅ JAN — New Year (1/1–1/3) many stores close; Ski resorts, Onsen towns, popular places, the hotels get fully booked first week of Jan, so plan early. ✅ FEB — Coldest month with amazing powder snow in the mountains. Late Feb in Tokyo already starts to feel like early spring. “Kawazu-zakura” (early cherry blossoms) bloom in some areas. ❌ MAR — Beautiful but crowded from mid March. Cherry blossom + school holidays = 2–3× hotel prices. Book way in advance. ❌ APR — Peak spring + crowds. Avoid popular places (i.e. Kyoto) then you can still enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms in peace. Bloom time varies by region, so check forecasts. ✅ MAY — Golden Week (2026/4/29-5/6) is intense with crowds + high prices. But outside that week, May is one of the best months to visit. ✅ JUN — Rainy season, though in recent years it hasn’t been too rainy. Less crowd. ❌ JUL — end-July is when real continual heat begins: hot and humid. School holidays start end-July til end Aug → Some accommodations book out, so plan early. ❌ AUG — If you can, avoid August🥵 extremely hot humid + Obon holiday (2026/8/13-16) crowds. A light down jacket and layered outfit is good. ⭐️ Osaka Osaka’s weather is similar to Tokyo. ⭐️ Kyoto Kyoto is a little bit cooler than Tokyo/Osaka because it is surrounded by mountains. Kyoto has Japan’s most famous autumn foliage, usually peaking in late November to early December. Bring a warm jacket for evening temple visits. ⭐️ Sapporo (Hokkaido) Sapporo is much colder.
