Day 81 of my world journey | Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Kwai Chai Hong This small alley, known as Kwai Chai Hong, is quietly tucked away behind Chinatown. At first glance, it feels lively — filled with colorful wall art and people stopping to take photos. But beyond the paintings, layers of time remain — the lives of Chinese communities who once lived in poverty, and children who grew up on the edges of society. The murals are nostalgic and charming, yet something lingers in the chest. Perhaps it’s because this place still carries memories from before it became a tourist spot. Around the alley, street art painted by younger generations appears alongside freehand illustrations and familiar anime characters, allowing the past and present to coexist on the same walls. It’s a place where you can quietly touch the hidden history behind the beauty.

Day 95 of World Travel – Bangkok 🇹🇭 Title: Wat Paknam In Thailand, you take off your shoes before entering temples, just like in Malaysia. I chose Wat Paknam as my first temple in Thailand. After a short arcade, a gigantic Buddha suddenly appears — more yellow-gold than deep gold, and visible from many street corners, which makes the cityscape fun. Next to it stands the huge stupa. From outside it looks simple and white, but inside, after climbing the stairs, a stunning emerald-green gradient ceiling reveals itself. One of Bangkok’s most famous spots, and truly worth visiting. Seeing the Buddha from behind from the stupa made it feel even more massive.

Day 94 of My World Trip|Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 My last meal in Malaysia was roti. Thin, layered, crispy yet soft — I discovered I’m definitely on team roti, not naan. Time to shoulder my backpack and head to the airport. The next time I visit Malaysia, it probably won’t be Kuala Lumpur. I loved the city and the food, but next time, I want to go further out — toward nature. I boarded the plane. Next stop: Thailand 🇹🇭 After a short flight, I arrived. Japanese-like sights caught my eye, and my heart lifted. I guess I’d been farther from Japan than I realized. I wasn’t homesick. But there was one thing I missed — the scent. Air, laundry, food, subways, even people — everything smells different. I could read Japanese, cook Japanese food. But scent was harder to remember. So I bought Japanese hair spray. One spray in the morning, and my heart goes home. Simple, but important. I arrived late at night, took the Red Line partway, then a taxi to the hotel. The journey in Thailand begins. Diving into a new scent once again.

Day 93 of the world trip — in Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Title: Merdeka Square and Egg Tarts As the sun slowly rose, I packed my bags while thinking that I would soon say goodbye to this view. My daily routine of getting ready to go out has gradually taken shape and now feels comforting. Today I planned to have brunch again around Chinatown. My destination was Bunn Choon Restaurant, a tea house famous for dim sum and egg tarts. Since there are many Chinese Malaysians here, Kuala Lumpur actually has several well-known egg tart shops. Historically, I learned that Malaysia is quite a unique country. It’s fascinating how a place I only vaguely knew before traveling becomes clearer and clearer, like a fog lifting. Maybe because I turn everything into videos and writing, my review and preparation feel perfect 😂 After brunch, I went to Merdeka Square. It was a huge, open lawn. The surrounding buildings were magnificent, and although some areas were under renovation, many groups had gathered and were doing different activities—it was fun to watch. Tomorrow I move on to Thailand. Good night.

Day 92 of my world trip – Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Batu Caves Batu Caves are located north of Kuala Lumpur and can be reached directly by bus 173. Buses differ from country to country and can be tricky at first, but once you’re used to them, they’re very convenient. Fighting off sleep and reminding myself that I was abroad, I rode north for about an hour. Soon, a mountain with sheer cliffs appeared — its height and sacred presence clear even from a distance. Colorful stairs, giant Murti statues, and far too many pigeons 😨 Without them, the place would feel even more beautiful. While the famous stairs are free, I especially recommend the cave to the left of the entrance. The softly lit cave, waterfalls, and echoing sounds calm the mind. Steep steps and exposed rock make you feel that this is truly part of the mountain.

Day 90 & 91 of My World Trip|Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 BookXcess Rex KL In the middle of a chaotic cityscape, an unexpectedly stylish space appears — REXKL. Vintage shops, secondhand clothing, places to eat, and a bookstore, all gathered in one place. This bookstore is something special. It’s not designed to make books easy to find, yet it’s a space that makes even people who aren’t interested in books want to step inside a bookstore. In fact, many young people come here just to take photos. There are only stairs. The steps aren’t even, there are dead ends, and passages that unexpectedly connect to other spaces. It’s far from barrier-free, but getting lost in the space is exactly how you encounter new books. Breathing in the scent of paper until my chest felt full, I spent a long, unhurried time there.

World Trip Day 89|Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 A 65-Year-Old Breakfast I visited Ho Kow Hainam Kopitiam in Chinatown on a weekday morning, hoping it would be quiet — but there were still ten groups waiting. With 65 years of history, this kopitiam serves traditional Hainan-style breakfasts and Malaysian local favorites. Of course, I ordered kaya toast again. They even have a croissant version — butter on buttery pastry, with even more butter inside. Dangerously good 🤤 Walking through the city, the roads feel chaotic, and traffic lights often seem optional. With broken pavement and uneven ground, it’s easy to see why no one walks while looking at their phone. Sometimes I find myself wondering how elderly people or those with disabilities navigate this city. Travel isn’t only about food or scenery — it quietly leaves you with questions.

World Trip Days 87 & 88|Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Chow Kit Market — Not Filmed The moment I stepped out of the hotel, the streets already felt chaotic. Walking a little further led me to Chow Kit Market. It was clearly different from any market I had seen before — a place that truly feels deep and real. I thought about filming, but decided not to. It was a space that made me reflect on life and how it is treated, and it didn’t feel right to capture on video. Instead, I spent only a short time there. Near the entrance, I sketched tents selling vegetables, fruits, and spices. Thank you to everyone who greeted me with warm smiles. After that, I changed my mood at Oriental Kopi, enjoying a delicious kaya toast. Since arriving in Malaysia, I’ve completely fallen in love with kaya toast — each café has its own balance of softness, butter, and sweetness, and trying different ones has become part of the journey.

八角が苦手でなければ、ここは本当におすすめです✨ World Trip Days 85 & 86|Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Jalan Alor & Bak Kut Teh Jalan Alor is one of the most famous night markets in Kuala Lumpur. Walking through it, I was reminded how different cultures express energy and hospitality. At night markets and airport taxi stands, people warmly invite you in with big smiles. The style of communication is very different from Japan, and that contrast felt eye-opening rather than uncomfortable. Kuala Lumpur feels lively but balanced, and experiencing these differences is one of the joys of traveling. On the second day, I tried Bak Kut Teh, a popular Malaysian and Singaporean dish made by simmering pork ribs with garlic and aromatic spices for hours. If you enjoy the flavor of star anise, this place is definitely worth a visit ✨ #絵描きさんと繋がりたい #世界一周 #一人旅 #マレーシア #worldtrip

World Trip Days 82 & 83 — in Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 It’s raining. I slip into a small café down a back alley — more like a roadside coffee stall than a café, really. As I sit there, I find myself remembering Midnight Express, a novel I read long ago. Ever since I read that nonfiction story, I’ve longed to travel. Not the glittering kind you see on YouTube or Instagram, but something far more raw and muddy. This journey feels like it’s right in the middle of that. Free, with a long road still ahead, this trip is nothing like a typical two-night, three-day getaway. If it weren’t for this journey, I would never have stopped at a stall like this. Under a leaky parasol, everyone holds their umbrellas, enduring the rain as they sip sweet, strong coffee. After thanking the shop owner, whose smile is lovely, I head toward my next destination. I want to compare it with the Pink Mosque, so I visit a different mosque. It’s accessible from the city, spacious, and beautifully kept. It’s not the Blue Mosque, but I still find the blue decorations here more than beautiful enough. When the visit ends and I’m padding along the cool marble corridor, someone speaks to me… I’m given a book translated into Japanese. I wonder if I’ll be able to read it. I’m not religious, and I probably never will be, but I’m curious about religion, and I’d like to give this a read. Tomorrow, I move to a new hotel. Good night.

Day 84 of My World Trip | Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 From the area around KL Sentral, I headed north. After a little over an hour by train, I arrived in Chow Kit. Compared to other parts of Kuala Lumpur, which is generally considered a safe city, Chow Kit has a reputation for being a bit rougher. It was once known as one of KL’s slum areas. Today, however, redevelopment is underway, and it feels more accurate to describe it as a cluttered, old downtown neighborhood. The first new dish I tried in this area was Soto. Soto is a spice-fragrant soup dish widely enjoyed in Indonesia and Malaysia. It’s the kind of everyday comfort food that’s similar to miso soup or ramen in Japan.

Day 80 of My World Trip|Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 National Museum of Malaysia The National Museum of Malaysia offers guided tours in Japanese, which was a pleasant surprise. They are held every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday — incredibly helpful if you’re a Japanese speaker. What’s more, although Google Maps shows a long, winding route, the museum is actually directly connected to KL Sentral Station via a pedestrian walkway (lol). Since arriving in Malaysia, I’ve learned not to trust Google Maps too much. From the eastern end of KL Sentral Station, there’s a passageway leading to the Q Sentral building. If you cross there, you can reach the museum in about 10 minutes on foot. That said… On the way there, I got completely lost. After battling with ChatGPT, I still couldn’t find it. I finally discovered the correct shortcut on the way back 😂 If you’re planning to visit, I hope this helps. I saw several other people just as lost as I was, so I think the area is genuinely confusing 🙂‍↕️ As for the museum itself, it was far more substantial than I expected. The tour group had around 10 people, which made it very comfortable. It was easy to ask questions along the way, and there were no issues hearing the guide. The exhibits cover Malaysia’s colonial history shaped by its rich spice production, as well as various tools and artifacts that have been excavated over the years. The explanation about how wind patterns contributed to the development of Malaysia’s trade was especially fascinating. The museum is quite large, so if you’re comfortable with English, you could easily spend an entire day there.

World Trip Days 78 & 79 in Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Title: A Parade of Food and a Pool at Pavilion When traveling in Southeast Asia, don’t you want to enjoy a bit of luxury made possible by the low cost of living, while also experiencing the raw, real, and deep places that aren’t necessarily clean or well organized? I believe you can only truly appreciate Southeast Asia after experiencing both sides. “Peter’s Pork Noodle,” located near KL Sentral Station, is one of those deep, local spots. I had seen it introduced in someone’s video, so I decided to go—but it was surprisingly hard to find. The food court is actually tucked away behind a parking area, making it almost invisible at first glance. It’s a very small food area with about ten stall-like restaurants, where English isn’t really spoken. But the food was incredibly delicious. For the first time in a while, I enjoyed something that wasn’t spicy and was gentle on my stomach. You can choose your type of noodles too, which made the experience even more interesting. That said, the place has a worn-down, almost rundown feel, so I imagine people who are very sensitive about cleanliness might struggle. I, however, enjoyed it thoroughly. What I had was a Chinese-style pork noodle dish. After that, I went to Pavilion. Pavilion is a huge shopping mall, home to several shops that many YouTubers and travel bloggers often introduce. Luxury brands line the halls—it’s very much a tourist-oriented area. Still, it’s clean, English is widely spoken, and you can find just about anything you need, making it a very convenient mall. The famous Madam Kwan’s is also located here. I tried a longan (dragon eye) drink for the first time, and it was light and refreshing. What stood out most was how beautifully clear and transparent the drink was at this restaurant. It tasted great, of course—but I think I fell in love with it at first sight.
