The subtle smoky aroma from the wood-fired oven made every bite even better. The balance of cheese and toppings was excellent, and the pizza stayed delicious until the last slice. We also had appetizers and drinks, making it a great spot for a relaxed evening in Kokubuncho. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff were warm and welcoming throughout the visit. Stopped by Olu Olu Farm Restaurant & Cafe on the way to Kamikochi 🌿 Surrounded by nature, it has a peaceful and cozy atmosphere, with delicious dishes made with local ingredients. I came across these Moai statues in Minamisanriku, Miyagi. But there is a deeper story behind why they are here. In 1960, Minamisanriku was severely affected by the Chilean earthquake and tsunami. To preserve the memory of the disaster and the friendship between Chile and Minamisanriku, a Moai statue was created in 1991. However, the statue was damaged in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Then, in 2013, a real Moai statue was gifted to Minamisanriku from Easter Island, Chile, as a symbol of friendship and hope for recovery. This Moai has eyes made of white coral and obsidian. It is said that only two Moai statues in the world have eyes, making this one especially precious. 📍ハッピータイム｜Happy Time 秋田県秋田市大町1-5-37 1-5-37 Omachi, Akita, Akita 010-0921, Japan The burger itself was seriously SO good. You can choose from several types of buns, and the bun was honestly incredible. Soft, slightly toasted, and the perfect match with the burger. The patty was incredibly juicy, and the sauce wasn’t overpowering, so it didn’t take away from the flavor of the burger itself. Everything was perfectly balanced — the bun, the juicy patty, and the sauce. I stopped by Ijinkan, an old-fashioned café in Miyako City, Iwate, on my way down to Sendai. The warm atmosphere of the café and the kind, elderly owner who has been taking care of this place for many years made it feel especially memorable. I ordered two of the café’s classics: ナポリタン — a signature dish that has been loved since the café first opened 甘夏パフェ — one of Ijinkan’s signature desserts, with a refreshing bittersweet citrus flavor and soft whipped cream. A hidden blue world in Iwate, Japan 💙 From Jodogahama, we took a small boat called a “Sappa-sen” and headed into the Blue Cave, known as Hachinohe-ana. The ride takes about 20 minutes, passing through the beautiful waters of Jodogahama. Inside the cave, the clear blue sea and unique rock formations create a magical atmosphere. Depending on the weather and season, the water can appear cobalt blue or emerald green. 🏮 Akita Kanto Festival | 秋田竿燈まつり One of Akita’s most iconic traditional summer festivals, the Akita Kanto Festival dates back to the mid-Edo period. It is said to have developed from a traditional event called “Neburi-nagashi,” held to pray for a good harvest. During the festival, performers known as sashite skillfully balance enormous bamboo poles covered with lanterns on their palms, shoulders, foreheads, and hips. The largest Kanto can reach around 12 meters in height and weigh up to 50 kg, carrying around 46 lanterns that beautifully light up the summer night in Akita. August 2026 — an unforgettable summer night spent experiencing this centuries-old tradition in person. Until next summer, Akita.
