This is Gake Kannon, a bright red temple built directly into a cliff overlooking Tateyama Bay. It’s over 1,300 years old and was founded in 717 when a Buddhist monk carved an Eleven-Faced Kannon statue into the rock. From the top, you can see the ocean and sometimes even Mt. Fuji on clear days. The climb is short but steep — but the view is totally worth it. One of Tateyama’s most unique hidden gems. 🌊⛩️ 📍 Tateyama, Chiba ⏰ Around 8:00–16:30 🚶♀️ 15 min walk from Nako-Funakata Station The temple hall is literally attached to the cliff, which is why it’s called “Gake” (cliff) Kannon. #GakeKannon #TateyamaChiba #ChibaJapan #JapanHiddenGems #JapanTravel
