This was SO good!! 🍈🇨🇱 It’s peak melon season in Japan right now so I ordered one through Furusato Nozei for ¥10,000 ($70) from Hokkaido! It was so sweet and juicy, there was no need to add sugar to make this Chilean classic boozy drink! 👌 Instead of adding ice, I froze half of the melon chunks from the hollowed out melon, and then added it to the fresh melon chunks and melon juice, plus a Chilean bottle of white to the brim! One of Tokyo’s biggest summer festivals with over 10,000 performers! Awa Odori originated in Tokushima but has become popular across Japan and Koenji Awa Odori is now the second biggest in the country, next to the original in Tokushima! Bathe right by a waterfall! Can you believe this is a stone’s throw away from Tokyo! 🏞️ This is Kawazu Seven Waterfalls (河津七滝 / Kawazu Nanadaru) on Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture! A casual hike will take you through breathtaking nature to see six waterfalls! The seventh waterfall can be enjoyed from an outdoor hot spring area that directly overlooks it! Unlike most onsen, this one is a mixed hot spring AND it allows tattoos! Simply bring or rent a swimsuit when you visit. There are several bathing areas including a warm pool and an indoor one that looks like some kind of wartime bunker! If you’re brave enough - and at your own risk - you can also take a dip in the waterfall area itself! The area is famous for wasabi and soba so be sure to try wasabi flavoured soba from one of the many restaurants! The unexpected nights are the best nights 🙌 This restaurant in Kichijoji is all about having a good time and banter with the customers! The restaurant name, Bakawarai Junsui, roughly translates to, ‘pure laughter’! They 100% deliver on it with little pranks, cute details, and if you order their signature tonpeiyaki (teppan hot plate grilled pork, cheese and veg wrapped in a thin omelette), they’ll let you roll it yourself! 👩🏻‍🍳 They are a teppanyaki izakaya so you can expect teppan grilled dishes like yakisoba noodles, grilled vegetables, gyoza, as well as other izakaya fare. There’s a reason I keep going back here! 🍖 I’ve been to both the food truck and their original store Smokemanship in holiday town Karuizawa and they never disappoint! These ribs are perfect because you can get them in any size from as small as 150g to a whopping 500g! The prices are based on weight and availability is listed daily! Smoked for 10 hours until falling apart tender, these ribs are a wagyu Holstein beef hybrid with a great balance of meat and marbling!
