🌸 Have you heard of the countryside town in Nara called Yoshino? Most people know it for its cherry blossoms cherry blossoms, but recently I went there to try its famous food “kudzu” For centuries, Yoshino has been known as the home of Japan’s purest kudzu (arrowroot). The roots are harvested and washed dozens of times in the region’s crystal clear spring water, the same water that gives life to the cherry blossom trees on Mount Yoshino. 💧 🌱Kudzu is naturally vegan so there are LOTS of vegan options on this cafe walk too~ This kudzu starch becomes the base for traditional sweets like kudzumochi, kudzukiri, and kudzuyu. They’re silky, translucent desserts that have been loved since the Edo period, but these days you can find lots of other kudzu desserts in Yoshino too, like kudzu ice cream parfaits! There are tons of cafes here and most of them have take-out options or sweets that you can take home as omiage. You can go on a self-guided walking tour to try them all!🍡✨ Check out the link in my bio to see the walking tour guide map and don’t forget to follow me at @amberjapantravels to more quiet Japan~
