🏡 Ainokura: a World Heritage Site in Toyama 😶 Have you ever seen pictures of those traditional Japanese houses with roofs that look like straw? There are a few places in Japan where you can see them. One village I recommend is Ainokura! Some of these houses are over 300 years old. 🤯 Ainokura is part of Gokayama, an area in Toyama known for these houses with thatched roofs. More specifically, they’re called gassho-zukuri, and they look like hands praying. 🙏 They can survive heavy snowfall in the winter. ⛄️ While Gokayama is not as famous or accessible as Shirakawa-go, its counterpart in Gifu, it is very well-preserved due to its remoteness and status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 🌍 I combined Ainokura with Suganuma, another village in the area, for a day trip from Toyama City. While I was content with walking around and soaking up the countryside vibes, if you really want to immerse yourself, many of the houses here have been converted into inns, museums, and workshops, so you can even stay overnight. 😴 🎏 Follow for more beautiful places in Japan! 📍 Ainokura, Gokayama, Toyama 🚎 World Heritage Bus from Toyama Station #toyama #gokayama #ainokura #travelgram #japantravel #lifeinjapan #japantourism #japanaesthetic #traveldestinations #tokyogram #lifeintokyo #myjapan #womenwhotravel #japanawaits #japangram #japanfeatured #japantravelgallery #ig_japangram #localexperience #autumninjapan #explorejapan #visitjapan #japanreels #ilovejapan #五箇山 #世界遺産 #合掌造り集落
