Mount Fuji days just hit different. Something about being near it always makes me feel refreshed, reset, and grateful. Today I took my cousin for a little day trip — we rode the ropeway, stopped for coffee, and just enjoyed the view. Day 12 of job searching in Japan. Tomorrow I have 4 interviews in one day 😅 Massage salon, Pilates, daycare, and elderly care. Some opportunities… some rejections… and some jobs offering basically minimum wage. The job search continues. 10 days since I got the message that I was being laid off. Today alone: 4 phone calls and 2 Zoom interviews. Some small possibilities… but honestly my brain is exhausted. Job hunting in Japan is basically a full-time job. Job search update. Had a Zoom interview for some freelance English lessons (more like side income), and right after the call I noticed I had missed a phone call from a random number. I called it back… and it turned out to be a job working with elderly people near my house. The pay is a little less, but the commute would be way better than the 3 hours a day I’m doing now. I’ve lived in Japan for years, but this was my first time making ramen from scratch 🍜 In this class near Shibuya Station we made noodles from wheat flour, used a noodle machine, and tried three types of ramen: tonkotsu, shoyu, and miso. Honestly… eating ramen you made yourself just hits different. I think the reality of losing my job is finally hitting. When my cousin was visiting, I was so happy spending time with him that I kind of pushed the stress down so I could just enjoy the moment. Now that things are back to normal… all the feelings and stress are starting to show up. Job search update. A few rejections came in this weekend (including the yoga job I was excited about), but I also scheduled one interview and sent availability for another. This morning was really hard. My son has been dealing with bullying, and getting him to school today was not easy. There were a lot of tears and a lot of big emotions. Part of me wanted to just let him stay home… but I know avoiding it only makes it harder next time. In the end, he walked into school on his own and even waved goodbye. Some parenting wins are quiet ones. Today felt like one of them. 🤍 今朝は本当に大変でした。 息子はいじめに悩んでいて、今日は学校へ行くまでにたくさんの涙と大きな感情がありました。 休ませてあげたい気持ちもあったけど、逃げ続けるともっと難しくなると思いました。 最後は自分の足で学校に入っていって、手を振ってくれました。 今日は小さな大きな一歩。🤍 #momlifeinjapan #realmomlife #parentingreality #raisingboys #mommingitinjapan

Quick update on my son and the bullying situation. The school took it very seriously and the teacher had a long talk with the kids involved. They apologized, and the school is also contacting their parents. My son isn’t ready to talk much about it yet, and that’s okay. I’m letting him go at his own pace. For now I’m just really grateful the school stepped in quickly and handled it. Job search update. Yesterday I took the day off to attend a long Zoom introduction for a yoga company and went into Tokyo for a meeting with a staffing agency. I also got an email from an English school to set up an interview, so that felt like a small win. I’ve slowed down a bit with applications though. Instead of applying to everything, I want to focus on jobs I’d actually enjoy. This was from last night. After a long day of job search calls, my son called me crying about kids bullying him at school. So instead of the gym, he baked a cake and went for a walk together. Hidden in the basement in Shibuya, this spot had such a cool vibe. I only checked out the first floor (UTOPIA) but the deep red lighting, the DJ, and the whole atmosphere made it such a fun place to hang out. You can sit, have a drink, or get up and dance — whatever mood you’re in. The DJ was rocking and the staff were super friendly. There is nothing embarrassing about starting over. If you’re job searching in Japan, use job sites — but don’t underestimate word of mouth. Some of my biggest opportunities came from simply posting that I was looking.
