When you cut off someone from your life, they will never tell people the full story; they will only tell them the part that makes you look bad and them innocent.

Sometimes I sit back and think about everything that happened, and one thing I’ve learned is that people can remember the same chapter of life very differently. We traveled together. We spent time with our families. We experienced different cultures, food, traditions, celebrations, laughter, and so many little moments in between. And I’m genuinely grateful for those memories. I’m happy that we had those opportunities and that we got to share those experiences together. Of course, everything wasn’t perfect. We argued. I made mistakes. He hurt me too. There were things happening between us that other people may never fully understand. Eventually, our problems became bigger than the love we had. But something I’ve learned is that I don’t want the painful ending to change the way I remember the entire journey. Sometimes it hurts when you hear someone talk about the past and they only remember the negative parts. They remember the time you shouted, but not what led you to that point. They remember the arguments, but somehow forget the laughter. They remember what went wrong, but forget all the things that were done with love. And I think that’s where I learned something important about gratitude. To me, being grateful doesn’t mean pretending that everything was perfect. It simply means being mature enough to say, “Yes, some things hurt me, but some things were beautiful too.” Just because a relationship ended doesn’t mean every memory suddenly becomes bad. One disagreement cannot erase every good moment. One mistake cannot erase all the love, effort, and sacrifices that came before it. I know I wasn’t perfect, and I don’t need to pretend that I was. I can acknowledge the things I did wrong while still knowing that there was also a lot of good in me and a lot that I gave from my heart. And maybe that’s one of the biggest lessons I’m taking with me: I can’t control which version of the story someone else chooses to remember. I can only choose how I carry it. I don’t regret loving. I don’t regret giving. And I don’t regret the memories that were genuinely beautiful at the time. Some chapters aren’t meant to last forever. But just because a chapter ended painfully doesn’t mean the whole story was painful. And just because it ended doesn’t mean it meant nothing.
